Today’s BrainWOD: “Jenga Jumps”

By | Blog, Ignite! At Home, Math, wod | No Comments

photo

Note: This game is a ‘hopper-style’ random draw. While students love the suspense of “Jenga,” teachers can incorporate any randomization, like a deck of cards, to determine movements.

Cut 2×4″ blocks to 10″ each. Stack in “jenga-style,” 3 in one direction, and 3 on top in another, until it reaches 15 rows tall.

Each child draws one block, and performs the exercise written on it. Number of reps is equal to the total number of blocks drawn (first draw is 1, second is two, third is three reps, etc.)

Incorporate addition, skip counting, and memory challenges as you like.

Ignite BrainWODs are comprised of 7 phases (the Ignite 7 Steps.) The above can be used on its own for a fun challenge, or incorporated into the 7 Steps for optimal benefit.

This activity would be proceeded by a lesson about number sequencing.

The Ignite 7 Steps are outlined in Enrichment Through Exercise, and taught in our NeuroMotive Coach Certifications.

Max double-unders in two minutes (repeat.)

Calculate the number of double-unders completed in the first attempt, the second, and the two together. Older students: forecast the number of double-unders likely to occur in another two-minute attempt if increasing/decreasing trends continued.
